Paytm First Credit Card is the first credit card by Paytm, in partnership with Citibank, and looks like a good card for starters. It is a contactless Visa credit card.
And if you are happy with flat 1% cashback on all spends as well as a lot of Paytm offers, just go for it!
How to Apply?
- Customers can apply for the new Paytm credit card directly from the Paytm app. So that means you have to be an existing Paytm customer before you can apply for this card.
- However, as per the company, approval will depend on individual digital behaviour.
Features:
- It uses Visa Payment Network, is a contactless card and is a co-branded card of Paytm and Citibank. This means it will also have offers from both these companies.
- The card has an annual fee of Rs 500 (not too expensive, neither free.. Smart move !!). Also it can be waived off on spending Rs 50,000 in the year.
- This card is said to offer 1% “universal unlimited cashback” to customers along with no restrictions on earning categories, which will be auto-credited to the card account every month.
- The card will offer Paytm promocodes worth Rs. 10,000 on spending a minimum of Rs. 10,000 within the first 4 months of issuance. That’s a Sweet deal !
- Paytm customers will also be able to track offers through the Paytm First Card passbook. This will also show latest available offers from Citi along with Paytm like:
- Upto 15% discount at Partner Restaurants
- Buy 1 Get 1 on Paytm movie tickets every Friday, using Citi credit or debit cards (Up to Rs 500 per ticket)

Conclusion:
- If you are a regular shopper at Paytm and also happy with the 1% cashback, it is the perfect card for you. Also, it will be credited to your card account, so as good as cash.
- If you are a frequent spender having a card offering reward points in excess of 1.25–1.5% (because they are RPs and not cash), it totally makes sense for you to take it for first year, use all the promocodes of Rs 10,000 as well as other offers and may be decide if its worthwhile in next year (not a problem if it remains free of course).
- If you have other high-end cards which offer returns like 2.5 – 3.33%, it may not make sense for you. Just that you may want to use it for its benefits but your cards already are providing much more than that.
PIECE OF ADVICE:
- Calculate and compare with your existing cards (& your annual spending) and then decide if this card is worth for you. However, if you are a first time credit card user who uses Paytm, you should go for it and use it properly !
- Also, ensure you always repay the amount to the fullest for any credit card.
